"Never was so much owed by so many to so few"-Churchill. Not since the threat of the Spanish Armada had England come under such a dire threat as in June of 1940. The Miracle of Dunkirk had saved the British Army from annihilation the previous month, but the troops needed to be rearmed, re-equipped and reorganized in order to resist the expected German invasion. The British Navy could stop any seaborne invasion, but only if the German Luftwaffe did not have control of the sky. Herman Georing was supremely confident of his pilots and in June the air attacks began.
